Okay, a lot of people (myself included) have been screwing too much with the pic reserves, so I'm making an official rule now.
Pic reserves last 24 hours at most. After that, you may extend the courtesy of not posting to the person who reserved, but you are by no means obligated to. You must also specify who the reserve is against; no reserving on the whole thread unless it's exceptionally small and all in one group.

This would have to happen, as soon as I posted a reserve. Bad timingBut seriously. I need more time. I have school in less then an hour and I won't be able to do anything to my picture for the next 7 hours. That leaves me about 2? 3? hours at most to try to add as much as possible. Before people can just bust in and ruin the picture I slaved over all night and since yesterday when I posted my reserve. I didn't get any sleep because of this monster. Yeah, its that important.

If it's that important you'll cram the last 2-3 hours in, or find more time.

If it's that important you'll cram the last 2-3 hours in, or find more time. That's the plan. I just hope I have enough time to finish the 2nd part. Otherwise it's square 1 all over again and we would of gotten nowhere. I'm sure if my reserve time ran out people would wait for me to post mine since they know I'm still working on it, and not go all "oh he's been gone to long lets post a picture that intentionally screws up his picture herpty durp durp". Note: If you see me online, I'm usually working on something.

This is an annoying topic. A fast pace works well for this place but effort on a piece is important and some people don't even have the time... or atleast can't make a picture as fast as others, Shackles. We don't want to have topics held up for like a week but we want to keep a fast pace without having to force artists to work especially harder to keep with it and I would frankly agree with anyone that said a pic reserve to be void after 24 hours may not be enough time. Especially on weekdays when near everyone has business to do, I can get a picture done in the 7 hours I get after school but that's disregarding duties I have everyday, I'm not particularly busy but I'm not prepared to spend my whole leisure time to work on a picture I have reserved. I encourage artists to plan their comics beforehand while doing other things perhaps so that they can get a good idea of how they want to do their work and how fast it will take but I don't want that to limit creativity and what someone can do with a comic.
If I'd give it anything I'd limit it to 3 days, only Shackles can take more time than that to complete a comic. But I'm worried, 3 days is a long time and if people don't persist after they have reserved a comic having to wait 3 days routinely can be very repetitive. Community is a big part of this, we need to be able to be trusted with this time to use it wisely and effectively so as to not disrupt flow and cause distress among the bystanders, because that's the last thing we need. Even if it's decided 3 days is excessive it will be up to the community to decide if they want to disrupt someone who's reserve had just voided.

Restricting it so linearly won't do much, because of the community. Most people talk to each other before making their picture, as to not interfere with their plans. However a 3 day "You can't post until I do" card is really too far. In fact, setting up a strict limit like that can easily be replaced by something more flexible, we can count on people's common sense for that. When people say "Reserve" they're probably working on something good and worthy of our time (This is where common sense comes in, people should ask themselves "is my pic worthy everyone's time, and how much time is that?").
But yeah don't put reserves on a whole thread, just on one person or a small group of people. Again, I'm not stating the maximum number for people in that group, this is also flexible. I trust you people to have a sense of judgement to how long is long and how long is too much. So far this hasn't been a problem, as far as I've seen. Noone really pushed it that far.

I think it's good to have a 24 hour rule, but that if a thread would require more than that, one could set those rules up before.

I don't know what grent was thinking when he made the thread in main arena, but here is a more suitable place.

Why is everybody flipping out over Nitro's reserve? 48 hours is 2 days, there are people who make pic reserves for way longer than that. I had a sort-of pic reserve for like, a month (granted, I explained that I wasn't going to have any real time to work on it until spring break a month after I ended up making the reserve, but still). There are like 5 other threads that people can participate in while they wait a couple days for Nitro to finish. If he's putting effort into making a good, lengthy comic, then I say let him do it and stop being so god damn impatient. If he's taking like a week to do it, then you should start complaining about him taking the whole reserve thing to an 'extreme', but two days? Give him a break.

I'm willing to give you guys as much time as you need to finish your pictures, I know some you the better artists need a lot longer that most people to get one done, it's just a little irritating that I can't keep posting in a topic after I've been reserved for like, 4 days and that there's about 8 active topics and I'm reserved in 3 and the most recent poster in 2.

How do you guys feel about this: after 24 hours, you must have the consent of everyone you've reserved? That's pretty much our system anyways, but we may as well put it in writing.

To make your drawings go faster and not hog up a long reserve, you guys COULD always draw one half of your pic (the attacking part or something) before the other person with the reserve finishes. Then when he posts, finish the other half, and just edit the half you already finished. That's what I did with my tournament match against mcj back in the day, i was able to get out some really long attacks long before my 3 day time limit was up. If you need to clarify what the person with the reserve is going to do, just ask him via pm's, then draw your comic accordingly. Work together to get as much out as fast as you both can. Communication is key Like this pic, it actually took me five days to complete it. I didn't ask Mcj what he was going to do, so I just guessed. if it were a more complex attack, I would have added a few panels of Zarth's recovery from it, then attacked. Also, with the nitro and the RVB reserve. No everyone is waiting for him to finish, i'm not sure if he's organizing something with the other people on blue team. But I've already drawn up a quick picture that plays along with his picture that he's currently working on, i'm just waiting for him to finish so I can post mine.
