In this short, snappy guide I will explain how to draw decent stickmen, because I am noticing a few people with... lets say rather mediocre stickmen.
Part one, the tools yoo yoose
I used to use the brush tool to draw my character, but now I tend to use the line tool. I recommend only using the line tool if you know how to. Remember, the curve tool is you best friend. It is brilliant for arms, legs, torsos and for all you inhuman characters ot there, tails. Try out using different thicknesses until you find one that you can work with comfortably. make sure all of the limbs of your stickman are the same thickness.
Part two, perspective
Perspective is very important in the art of stickmen. It just doesn't look that good when the arms are coming out halfway down the torso. Good looking stickmens' arms usually start just at the bottom of the head, or very close to the head. Another key point in perspective is the length of the arms and legs. The legs should be roughly the same length as the torso and the head, and the arms should be roughly the length of the torso.
Part three, the head
Stickmen heads are usually nice round circles, unless you say otherwise. The best way to achieve this is to use the oval tool whilst holding down shift. Make sure you head is as thick as your body. And make sure your head is just the right size. If you make it too big, It will look like your stickman is really short. If you make the head too small, it will look just wierd.
I hope you have learnt something from this small lesson. A few things to remember:
The curve tool is your best friend.
make sure all the limbs and the outline of the head are the same thickness.
The arms appear at the top of the torso.
You are free! make the limbs point at any angle! Not just north, south, east, west Etc.
Good luck in your art!
