So, as I've already let on, this tourney is going to be a little different from the last one, specifically in that this tournament will be happening a whole helluva lot faster. Round one is going to be something of a testing phase, but if it goes well, you can assume this is what the rest of the tournament will be like. The match will start whenever Des or I says so, with the person with the lower seed taking the first move (we will mention who is going first anyways, so you don't really have to worry about it). The starting Brawler then has 24 hours to make a move. After that time is up, either Brawler may post. After a Brawler posts, they must wait until their opponent posts or 24 hours before they can post again (whichever comes first). If a Brawler makes no moves during the whole match, they are disqualified (I'll get to determining winners in a moment, but I wanted to make that explicit because theoretically if everyone wanted to troll, the AFK could still win). This back-and-forth brawling will go on for 5 days (120 hours), at which point the Brawlers have 24 more hours to make a "finisher." These finishers should be pretty special: it's one of the few times in SPB you'll actually be able to kill your opponent (though you don't have to). The general idea behind finishers is that you want it to be a move that clearly establishes you as the victor, and killing your opponent is a pretty standard way of doing it. Unlike the rest of the match, the finishers will not be based on one another; instead, they will be a response to the last picture in the "grudging" part of the match. You can post your finisher at any time during the ensuing 24 hours, but if you're concerned that your opponent will one-up you, you can wait until the last hour to post. After finishers are posted, judging/voting will begin. Judging is another thing that's going to be different this time around. Instead of a panel of mods, Des and I (with John judging in our stead if one of us is a participant in the match) will distribute three points among the Brawlers involved in the match: one for originality/style, one for timeliness (speed of posting), and one for whichever finisher we liked more. We can split these into half points (timeliness, for example, will usually get split down the middle unless someone is clearly being too slow), but only 3 points total will be given out. Also, we will have the "clearly didn't try" deduction if your art quality is substantially and consistently terrible, but this will just be for special occasions. In addition to our judging, there will be a popular vote where everyone gets to say who they think won. A total of 5 points will be distributed for the popular vote, based on the voting percentages. This means that if 40% of you vote for one guy and 60% for the other, the first guy will get 2 points, and the other guy will receive 3 points (I won't round the points off in the real matches, I just picked easy numbers here to make my point). Whoever has the most points between judging and voting will be the winner. Judging/voting will take place during the 24 hours after the end of the finishers period. Betting will work the same way as it did the last tournament. There will be an initial pot of 100 B, and users can bet on who they think will win. At the end of the match, the Brawlios will be distributed based on how much each user has bet relative to the other users in the pot. I'll be posting pot odds as bets are made. If a user ends up forfeiting, all Brawlios will be returned to the betters. Bets can be made until the finisher period starts. You cannot retract your bet, but you can add to it while betting is still open. ROUND 2 MODIFICATIONS AS FOLLOWS:- Instead of 24 hours, the time limit for pictures is now 48 hours.
- Instead of 5 days, matches will now continue for 8.
- Finishers are now optional.
Current Arena:Round 4: THE CAVERNS One of the more mysterious locations in Brawl, the cavers were discovered when McJesus broke a hole in the white void, exposing a maze of tunnels underneath. There's a lot of old, freaky shit down there. People have discovered tunnels leading to all kinds of altars and buildings from ancient underground civilizations, but no one ever seems to be able to find anything a second time. Some people suspect that the tunnels constantly change, while others suggest that people are just morons who can't remember how to get places. Anyways, it can get kind of dark in there. You may want to pack a light. Hey, remember that time that Balto blew up the planet in One Week Brawl? Of course you don't, that was like two years ago. Point is, it happened, and now there are a ton of rocks flying around in space even though the planet got fixed somehow. I don't know, One Week was really long, I can't be bothered to go through and look to figure out how exactly that happened, but somehow we got a portal out to the asteroid belt, and that's where round 3 is going to be. Most of the rocks are big enough to have enough gravity for you to hang out on them, but a good jump (or punch) will send you flying to a different asteroid. You'll probably want some sort of spacesuit (or fishbowl, whatever), since there's not enough oxygen being held in by the asteroids to last you for the whole match. Monty has thrown some air tanks around in case you lose yours, but he's too cheap to furnish suits for everyone. That shit's expensive! Wow, what a pile of shit! The Extra Cheap Apartments are exactly what they sounds like: a building full of the cheapest, dirtiest, most disgusting apartments you can find in one of the worst parts of Brawl City. Don't be fooled, though; the security here's great on account of the fact that the tenants are all Brawlers! The place may be awful, but the Brawlers living here will still fight viciously to defend their homes. Which is actually kind of funny, because we totally forgot to tell them to clear out for the tournament. That's right, the tenants who aren't actually part of the tournament are STILL THERE! Whoops! Monty's forcefield extends a few blocks around the apartments this time, so you can bash around a bit in the slums, too. Here's a diagram of who lives in which apartments. The "empty" rooms most likely contain non-Brawler squatters, and I would not be surprised if one or two of them were serial killers. This is a bad neighborhood. I think all the brawlers on this diagram are either mine, Des', Nitro's, MVG's (Lily profile pl0x), or Grim's. Personally I'd like to see Grim's Brawlers still there for old times' sake, but you can say they moved out if you like, seeing as Grim's not around anymore. If there's anyone on there you need info on, let me know and I'll dig it up. Also the landlord looks like this if you want to use him. Note: Using the Brawlers in the ECA is not only allowed, but encouraged in this match. However, you should realize that most of them are going to be pretty pissed about the fight going on in their building. Excessive use of the bystander Brawlers to your advantage will definitely hurt your mod scores, and I image it will not help you in the popular vote, either. Having your own character being beaten up by the tenants probably won't hurt, though.Over the course of all the Brawls that take place, Brawl City gets kind of trashed. Needless to say, piles of rubble everywhere were not very popular with the citizens, so after something gets destroyed, it's moved to the Junkyard. It looks like a junkyard you might see on TV, but super huge. There's a lot of random pieces of metal here, but if you look hard enough, you might be able to find something more useful. Yes, more useful than a random lead pipe, believe it or not.As usual, Monty's put up a barrier preventing you from leaving the arena, but you can go as high in the air as you like, and it's not like there isn't plenty of room to romp about.

On an unrelated note, do you guys want to do bets on the matches again? Nobody really uses Brawlios anymore, but gambling is fun! And good for you, too!

In the interest of fairness, I do have to offer that slot to Dorpz first. If he doesn't respond in 2 days, the slot is yours RK. Also, Bulet messaged me over Steam requesting a slot as well. If RK is for some reason unavailable to take the spot, Bulet will fill in instead.

Ok, that was near the end of Freshman year when shit was getting real ok? But I'm a Senior now and I don't really have jack in front of me. I was actually referring to the past 6 months. I'm not saying you're a bad person for not having time for us or anything. Hell, I've only made one or two pics in the past couple months myself. I'm just saying we don't exactly owe you any favors, either, and since you didn't get here in time to sign up, I'm not going to let you in unless there's an opening.

If anyone doesn't post in their first round would anyone that wants to join ie rk be able to assert their position after a set period of time or consent from the poster who has shown inactivity in said round? Problem is rounds last a week. It would be difficult to say someone is "inactive" in the middle of a round. At the end of the round, if one person has posted and the other has not, the person who has not posted would be eliminated, and the other would proceed on, leaving no openings. If two people in the same match went afk, then maybe I might stick him in, but it would be a little unfair to have him join in without having to do the first round, so I'd probably hold a vote like I did last time, where everyone who lost in the first round (plus RK) would be eligible to join in the newly empty slot, and whoever got the most votes would be put in. Well it's really up to Grent if he decides to let him enter or not. Robotkilla seems really passionate about entering, we need that kind of enthusiasm. Shows promise. We also need someone who shows up more than once every four or five months. Just saying.

Swamped I think is the word you were looking for. Anyways, so that you don't get your hopes up, RK, the problem is not that I don't think you'll put up a good show in the tournament, it's that there is no room. if I were to insert both latecomers into the tournament, it would royally fuck the structure of the brackets. The easiest solution would be to add a whole new round of the tournament and give all but two of the current entrants a first round bye, and that feels like bullshit. The only way I could fit you easily into the tourney is if either 14 more people joined in, or 2 people dropped (in the interest of fairness I'd have to let Dorpz in first if he claimed the spot). Okay honestly Dorpz hasn't signed in since he tried to enter and that slot would *probably* go to you, but that still means that at least one person would have to drop out, and there's always the chance Dorpz will come back to take that spot. I'm sorry, but the tournament was a reward for everyone being active on the forums, and in the past month or so you've posted precisely one picture (aside from the one in this thread). Before that, it'd been five months since you posted a pic. You're a good artist, but you're never here anymore.

Also, news flash for me. I actually won last tourney? (I swear it was Balto...) It wasn't official because both of you had stopped posting, but the general consensus was you would have won if we hadn't just ended the tournament.

I just wish he didn't go and get drunk last night It was super fun and I got a girl's number without even trying. I regret nothing. Also I'm going to have to say no. Sorry, RK, but an eighteen person tournament is only slightly less annoying to organize than a seventeen person tournament. Also considering you unofficially won the last tourney, tossing you in at the bottom would screw with the seeding really hard.

Fine, Swordkill will be entering as bottom seed but only because one more person evens out the brackets. No one else will be allowed to enter unless someone drops.

So we vote, and hows it going to go from there? A random number gen or something? Last tournament was entirely randomly generated. This led to some pretty awful matches. This time I'm going to use the voting to seed the tournament so that theoretically the better brawlers have a higher chance of making it further into the tournament. However, due to the nature of this vote, there will probably be some ties. In this case, I'm going to either do a re-vote or (more likely) randomly distribute the seeds at stake with a random number generator. Also I just noticed that I set it up so you could vote for eight people instead of seven. So vote for either seven or eight.

Post by Gront on Dec 6, 2012 9:32:15 GMT -5
Alright, voting for brackets has begun! Pick your top seven brawlers! I may hold a second tiebreaker vote if there are some rough ties, but I also reserve the right to assign randomly inside a tie.

No, 12/12/12 is just when Facebook is going to collapse under the weight of all the posts about how it's going to be the last repeating date for nearly a century.
The 21st is when I'm going to play REM's "It's the End of the World as We Know It" on repeat for a whole day.

So we've been getting a lot of spambots from Indonesia as of late. Starting now, if you sign up with an account from an IP address that traces back to Indonesia, I am banning you on the spot unless you send me a PM letting me know you are not a spambot. If we continue getting spambots like this I will seriously find a way to block all IPs from Indonesia, I swear to God. This is getting fucking ridiculous.

I'll enter with Element. (Grimscott game him back to me, and I have the Pm to prove it!) But I'm not sure if i'll be able to keep up to date with it due to 3/4 of my day is usually spent working, and riding buses/ sky trains. What will the time limitations be in this tournament? Rounds are going to last one week apiece. Depending on how many signups we get, I can see this going into late January or early February. Are you sure you can do more than one pic in a week, Zarth? Also: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:Signups will end on Wednesday or if we get two more entrants (not including Zarth). After that we will be doing a vote for seeding in the bracket. Make sure to show up sometime between Wednesday and the 16th to vote!

What do you guys think about starting on December 16th, doing the first round, then picking up round 2 after New Years?
