I'll do oen of my character's, but what program do you want the character's drawn in? Flash. Start off with just a standing animation (breathing or something), then go for some simple punching/kicking attacks (whatever your "A" attacks would be in SSB), and then, finally, move on to your "B" attacks, grabs, and block. Which reminds me: Everyone needs to come up with their actions. You will need the following (Please note I'm using "A" to denote weak attack and "B" to denote strong attack. Also, a "smash" attack is one with the capability of knocking your opponent off the screen if their damage is high enough. These are all analogous to Super Smash Bros.): A: Simple attack. Left/Right+A: Swipes or side smashes. Up+A: Attacking above you, also usually a smash attack. Down+A: A low attack, often just a different A or Side+A attack. Aerial A: Simple attack... in the AIR! Aerial Left/Right+A: Swipes or side smashes... in the AIR! Aerial Up+A: Attacking above you... in the AIR! Aerial Down+A: Attacking below you, often coming down faster than just a simple fall. B: Special/Strong attack. Left/Right+B: Usually a dash or projectile move. Up+B: Recovery, sends character up into the air, usually has some kind of damaging effect to an enemy who gets in the way. Down+B: Generic special move. Often a downwards attack, sometimes swaps with Up+B for recovery (damn Zero Suit Samus), but really it can be just about anything. B moves are pretty much the same in the air usually, but if you want to make aerial versions, go ahead. Block: Just your character standing still in a defensive position. Grab: Reaching out and grabbing an enemy. Grab, A: Basic "grab attack," usually just a punch while the other character is being held. Throws (Grab, Direction+A): Throws the enemy, doing damage in the process. Don't overpower your characters' attacks, but you can have pretty much anything you want for these attacks provided it's not needlessly complex. Oh, and keep them quick and simple. No ridiculous combos off of a single button press. Also, what do you guys think of Final Smashes (obviously we'd change the name, but we could have character-specific special uber-attacks)? Well, for one, I'm a computer science major at Baylor University if that counts for anything. Here's some of my work, too: Not my best work (I did it in a week), but here's Pulse, my only game submission to Newgrouds at this point. I've also got Car Dodger, the first game I ever made in Flash, Destroy the Civillians, the second game I ever made in Flash, and (probably the most impressive out of all of them, a C++ version of Bomberman I made for a comp sci class (it uses a way outdated graphics library, if you actually want to run the thing let me know and I'll send you some instructions and a few files). Unfortunately, everything else got deleted from my hard drive, so there's not much to offer. As for the gameplay, I'm leaning towards SSB style simply because it strikes me as more fun. If I'm outvoted, though, I can make either. Also: what maps should we have? Here's a couple ideas (Level descriptions only apply if we choose SSB style, for Street-Fighter style, we'd just have backgrounds): The Void - Flat surface, but we should have some mountains or stuff in the background so it doesn't look half-assed. Brawl City - 3 or 4 building roofs of varying height, similar to Pokemon City in SSB. Aerial Assault - A bunch of flying platforms. Aerial Assault (Castle) - The castle in Aerial Assault. Pretty self-explanatory. If we go with Street-Fighter style, we could probably have two levels for Brawl City: Rooftops and Ground Floor. (edited first post to include level possibilities)

It might definitely would be quicker with the minigames, yes, but I personally believe that we could make a better game if it was a fighter, and the better the game, the more people would come to the forums.

Two questions: 1) Street Fighter style or SSBB style? I'd say SSBB style because 1: You can do a lot more with it, and 2: I do believe SPB was sort of inspired by that. 2) Of my characters, which should be included? And the last fight with Illidon could have you eventually play as everyone, the chaos changing scenes enough so that different characters are regularly brought up (EX: Blue is fighting, knocked back by explosion, McJesus appears, you now play as McJesus). And I thought it would be kinda cool to have secondary characters always saving your hide throughout the fight, like Angelface scooping you up right before Illidon smashes you. And like I said, I REEEEAAAAAALLLLLY want to help with this, assuming it'll actually happen.

I should be faster than others, and have really quick (but somewhat weak) attacks. Super atack should be Chippy (character) infection, I used that like, twice, but I say throw it in anyway.

wow balto, your really into this ay. is ay u and grent should talk over pm more than this. Share ideas then show us after ur sure on some thing, or go on chat and sort stuff out:P or via msn. makes life easier and i don't have to read massive paragraphs lmao! also idea: what if we each had like a kill move or some thing, to end battle off (got idea from mortal kombat). like in MK they say finish him and u can type a code and kill him with special sorta vid mode. i surgest we take some thing from this and use it. or is that to complicated (just an idea)

In my idea for my own final smash, I summon a giant sheep from the sky to crush everyone on the field, and avoid getting crushed by stepping into the foreground.
Also, I'm gonna work on a standing animation for Blue over the weekend.

I got an idea.
Why not have a game that's a collection of minigames that are SPB related, and have people submit a character or two and they get a few minigames (2-5, depending on popularity/epicness).
Sound like a good idea?

Alright, MVG and Balto, you make some sprites for your respective characters and I'll use 'em to make an extremely rough alpha. Here's what I need (everything facing both left and right [which you might be able to do fairly easily by simply mirroring the image and changing anything that's side dependent, like Balto's glove]):
Standing (preferrably some sort of idle animation) Walking Running Ducking Falling Jumping (really just the falling sprite with you looking up instead of down; jumping will be fast enough that you won't need an animation for you taking off from the ground) Double-Jumping (personally, I'd just have the character do a flip to signify their double jump) Being hit Each of your attacks (see list in my first post) Any projectiles your attacks will use Launched (flying through air after being hit) Recovering mid-air (most of the characters in SSB do this by mid-air flip) Lying on the ground (after being knocked down) Recovering from ground (rolling forwards, rolling backwards, and simply standing up) Blocking Grabbing Attacking while holding an enemy Throwing a held enemy
I don't have to have these all at once, although I'd prefer them in the order listed (with your recovery move [Up+B] coming before the other attacks).
I'm not sure how much spriting you guys have done before, but I will be doing all character movement in code. That means don't move your characters in the movie clip, just animate them as though they were moving. I need it all in a movie clip (all in the same clip) in an Actionscript 2 Flash file at 30 fps.
Anyone else who wants to help with spriting should follow the same instructions. Just remember: FULLBODIES ONLY. Someone else can make your character for you if you suck at fullbodies.
