So in addition to the game that I'm going to make that is currently being discussed in my other thread, I'm going to be working on a SPB game. Here's MVG's ideas. Discuss.
...and vote on my other game!
Here's my vision.
McJesus - It's like there's a crosshair that's your mouse and you have to destroy enemies, walls, buildings, etc.
MVG - Puzzles, like portal the flash game, except you can blunt people with the portal gun, use them as shields by picking them up with the portal gun etc.
Quickfeet - Sonic like thing (See previous post)
Grimscott - Going up kinda thing, there's pules which the user has to grab on with the scythe and swing up and up (Thinking of a Really Really Tall Tower final level)
John12346 - Guitar Hero thing, A S D F keys, monster going from the sides, each time you press the right key John shoots a laser. Cool thing is, that it syncs with the music.
Omni - Captured, trapped, point and click escape.
Firemario - Streetfighter thing (Fire = Hadouken Pardoy)
Balto - Kinda like a side scroller LoZ, switching through auras for different weapons and moves to complete the level.
Bulet - Runnig from da po-po (Cause Bulet does eveeeerythiiiiing), Advances wars like thing, bulet has his own gang.
Yacazuma - Final Fantasy RPG thing.
Marckus - HORDES OF MONSTERS. Probably most fun, uses powers to kill enemies from the right, left, sky, diagnols, etc.
UNLOCKABLE. Iliidon - At the end, of every storyline, the Brawlers face Illidon. For each level he has a different, more powerful form. He can't switch to a brawler to target on, and his attacks are in the style of game that character played. Pretty cool.

So far we've got the following characters with minigames:
McJesus - It's like there's a crosshair that's your mouse and you have to destroy enemies, walls, buildings, etc.
MVG - Puzzles, like portal the flash game, except you can blunt people with the portal gun, use them as shields by picking them up with the portal gun etc.
Quickfeet - Like the levels of that fast kid in The Incredibles video game for ps2. Imagine a sidescroller, going from left to right. You're constantly running, you can move left, right, speed up, speed down, duck and jump but you can't stop. If you stop, you lose.
Yacazuma - Metal Gear Solid-esque sneaking mission
Marckus - HORDES OF MONSTERS. Probably most fun, uses powers to kill enemies from the right, left, sky, diagonals, etc.
Blue - Platformer where you sneak through a secret government base, switching between Sheep form to fool the stupid agents and run/jump through vertical areas, and human form to use Sheep gadgets to fight the Robots who aren't fooled by the sheep disguise and scale vertical areas.
The following characters have no minigames at the moment but will (probably) be included:
Zarth
One of my characters (Gunsmith, Chimera, or Bloodlust)
McJesus - It's like there's a crosshair that's your mouse and you have to destroy enemies, walls, buildings, etc.

It sounds like the minigames weren't necessarily the most popular part of the game so far, so I figure we should focus on the main fighting game at the moment.
ACTIONS
Everyone needs to come up with their actions. You will need the following (Please note I'm using "A" to denote weak attack and "B" to denote strong attack. Also, a "smash" attack is one with the capability of knocking your opponent off the screen if their damage is high enough. These are all analogous to Super Smash Bros.):
A: Simple attack.
Left/Right+A: Swipes or side smashes.
Up+A: Attacking above you, also usually a smash attack.
Down+A: A low attack, often just a different A or Side+A attack.
Aerial A: Simple attack... in the AIR!
Aerial Left/Right+A: Swipes or side smashes... in the AIR!
Aerial Up+A: Attacking above you... in the AIR!
Aerial Down+A: Attacking below you, often coming down faster than just a simple fall.
B: Special/Strong attack.
Left/Right+B: Usually a dash or projectile move.
Up+B: Recovery, sends character up into the air, usually has some kind of damaging effect to an enemy who gets in the way.
Down+B: Generic special move. Often a downwards attack, sometimes swaps with Up+B for recovery (damn Zero Suit Samus), but really it can be just about anything.
Aerial B: A modified version of your "B attack" to suit aerial combat, or a completely different move entirely.
Aerial Left/Right+B: Usually a dash or projectile move... in the AIR!
Aerial Up+B: Almost always the same as standard Up+B.
Aerial Down+B: Typically a downwards slam of some sort.
Block: Just your character standing still in a defensive position.
Grab: Reaching out and grabbing an enemy.
Grab, A: Basic "grab attack," usually just a punch while the other character is being held.
Throws (Grab, Direction+A): Throws the enemy, doing damage in the process.
Don't overpower your characters' attacks, but you can have pretty much anything you want for these attacks provided it's not needlessly complex. Oh, and keep them quick and simple. No ridiculous combos off of a single button press. If you want to make your own "sprites," read below.
CHARACTERS
Current characters(Possible special moves to the side):
McJesus - "Do you know what a nuke is, boy?" or ERROR! McJesus
MadGamer
Quickfeet - big-ass tornado
Grimscott - takes off hat and hair attacks those nearby
John12346 - turns into John123456, does stuff
The Omnipresence
Firemario *woah, wait a sec, that might be a problem*
Balto-Boy - howls and drops the moon to shatter across level
Bulet - spawns some ridiculously-large weapon
Yacazuma
Marckus
Blue - Walks into the foreground and smashes the field with a giant sheep.
Zarth
Chimera (Yeah, I decided on Chimera)
ProDuce
Swordkill - flies around screen on Nimbus cloud and hacks at people
Vyrokk (Virus) - gets in battle ship and starts blasting
Jay
Captain Chip
Ruby -
Snakeskull
Undeadlaw
Ghost
Psibat - screams sonar waves that push back enemies
Inu
Rick - epic energy slash
Jushiwah - Freezes whole stage, then shatters for damage
Who-Face
Bonetail
Melee Llama
If you want your character in, just let me know. Feel free to post here, but a PM would make absolutely certain I know about it.
Oh, and specify WHICH character you want or else I won't put you on the list.
There are currently 30 characters in play.
The character list is now completely dependent on who can get themselves sprited.
LEVELS
The levels are not set by any means. The levels appearing in the game depend entirely on what the mapmakers decide to make. Here's some ideas if you want to make a level but can't think of one to make:
The White Void - Flat surface, but we should have some mountains or stuff in the background so it doesn't look half-assed.
Brawl City - Cars drive by periodically or something to make it a little better than just The White Void with a different background.
Brawl City 20XX - Destroyed Brawl City; fallen buildings can be jumped on.
Brawl City Rooftops - 3 or 4 building roofs of varying height, similar to Pokemon City in SSB.
Really Tall Tower - Everyone's favorite absurdly tall building.
Aerial Assault - A bunch of flying platforms.
Aerial Assault (Castle) - The castle in Aerial Assault. Pretty self-explanatory.
Negasphere - Might be left out; kinda complicated to invert colors of "sprites" in Flash.
Mylok - Virus troops occasionally come in and attack fighters.
The Cavern
Great Deletion
Newgrounds
Graveyard
The Moon - May be removed so that Balto's special won't cause a Time Paradox. May be left in so Balto's special will cause a Time Paradox.
The Subway
The Docks - Maybe with a boat or two docked
Brawl Lake - A bunch of boats on the lake.
Illidon's Throne Room - Possible final boss stage (I was also thinking maybe Really Tall Tower cause Illidon's that big)
The Arena - What? Why? You can't use powers in the arena!
The Cubix Zone - See this.
Zombie Nation
The Sewer
LSD Zone
Omni's Base
Omni's Base (under siege) - Bullets 'n' shit. Don't get killed.
Brawl City Regional Medical Center
Ultrus - It's Zarth's ship. I didn't know the name either.
SPRITING
Interested in spriting? Read this:
Here's what I need (everything facing both left and right [which you might be able to do fairly easily by simply mirroring the image and changing anything that's side dependent, like Balto's glove]):
Standing (preferrably some sort of idle animation)
Walking/Running
Ducking
Falling
Jumping (really just the falling sprite with you looking up instead of down; jumping will be fast enough that you won't need an animation for you taking off from the ground)
Double-Jumping (personally, I'd just have the character do a flip to signify their double jump)
Being hit
Each of your attacks (see list in my first post)
Any projectiles your attacks will use
Launched (flying through air after being hit)
Splattering (You hit a hard surface after being launched. Your bones and internal organs become mush. This should follow directly from the "launched" animation; the wall will be coming from the direction you're flying.)
Recovering mid-air (most of the characters in SSB do this by mid-air flip)
Lying on the ground (after being knocked down)
Recovering from ground (rolling forwards, rolling backwards, and simply standing up)
Blocking
Dodging in the air (usually just a twist or something simple)
Grabbing
Attacking while holding an enemy
Throwing a held enemy
Being held
ACE attack (we'll work on these later, just know it's coming)
I don't have to have these all at once, although I'd prefer them in the order listed (with your recovery move [Up+B] coming before the other attacks).
I'm not sure how much spriting you guys have done before, but I will be doing all character movement in code. That means don't move your characters in the movie clip, just animate them as though they were moving.
I need it all in a movie clip (all in the same clip) in an Actionscript 2 Flash file at 30 fps.
Regarding character sizes: make 'em big. I'm gonna put in a "level scale" variable that will resize characters and change the physics engine based on the size of the level. Basically, the game engine will make sure your characters are the right size so you don't have to.
MAPMAKING
For mapmaking, you'd basically just be drawing a background for the brawls; I'd do the coding to make them do stuff. Here's the info:
The current dimensions of the file are 700x550. And if you could, divide the levels up into foreground and background, with each on a different layer (foreground is the stuff you can walk on/get knocked into, background is everything else).
Levels can be any size that is at least as big as the stage (that's the technical term for the Flash window; 700x550). They can scroll along the x axis (left to right), the right axis (up and down), neither, or both. When submitting a map to me, the mapmaker needs to specify in which directions the level will scroll. If the level is going to scroll, it CANNOT HAVE ANY LINES OUTSIDE OF THE PLAYABLE AREA. For example, Destructin's white void map has some lines sticking out to the left and right of the map, but that's okay because it doesn't scroll. Feel free to extend lines beyond the playable area during the actual creation of the map, but be sure to remove them before submitting the map or I will make the decision for you.
