See, this is why I gave this authority to others. I get to focus on everyone argue about game mechanics, not the plot. Anyways, I'm in favor of dual-mode gameplay. With the engine I'm working on, it shouldn't be that much harder. Arcade mode would be you picking a character and fighting a random list of other characters, maybe a boss battle with Illidon (or revamped, renamed Illidon) at the end, story would be... well, whatever the story is. If it's an arcade mode, then there is no story. Sitting back and watching you all argue arount the story line amuses me.

It sort of sounds like how the story mode works in NG Rumble: there's no big story. Screens just show up saying "shit happens". I've wanted it like that for ages but people want cutscenes

Maybe just the intro, but anything else would cause too much file size too big, screw many cutscenes.

Stylish pictures are the way to go.
If Omni has no objections, I'll start writing a script for the plot in the first post.

Stylish pictures are the way to go. Still pictures? Seems kinda lazy, but maybe if I saw an example of what you meant, I'd get a better understanding. And when you get done with that script PM it to me so I can look it over.

And when you get done with that script PM it to me so I can look it over. I mean something like this. Poor man's animation. PICTURE: McJesus poking his afro, with Angelface in the foreground McJesus: I have a freaking awesome afro, huh? Angelface: Yeah sure whatever, let's have dinner or something. PICTURE: Cuteseh falls through the roof onto the table. Cuteseh: Hey guys, can someone- PICTURE: McJesus creates an explosion that knocks Cuteseh back through the roof. McJesus: Screw you.

I've got an idea for cut scenes, like still pictures but some motion tweens, like an animated comic book.

I said you play a special non-player brawler, and try to achieve the greatness of being a epic brawler, and to do this you have to fight all of the brawlers, and then the final boss is some kind of super faceless brawler

You die at the end. THATS WHATS GOING ON. Huh. That's what someone told me happens at the end of On the Beach. Anywho, is anyone actually working on the plot, or are we just getting the game graphics and such out of the way first?

Well school is kicking the crap outta me at the moment( I guess I'm not as infallible as I thought), but hey if you got any ideas on how your story should go, totally post it dude.

Then everybody's gonna bitch about who is the current number one guy, or the one you fight last. But you could fix that by making every "boss" available to you from the start, so you can pick who you fight, and the games adjusts the difficulty level automatically. If I fought McJesus first, the game would make it easy, but if I fought him last, the game would make it hard. Dunno if that's codable, though. Actually, that would be one of the easier things to code.

Using one of 30 superpowered characters, fight other brawlers to gain ranking and become the best of Brawl! But beware! For villains are abundant in Brawl City.
Basically you fight people to gain rankings, the engine makes people harder as you gain ranks. Ever 10 ranks or so you have a boss battle; Elementell, Illidon, etc.
Cutscenes would take place in first person view of your figher, as other brawlers ask you to help out or to back you up.
"Hey you need some help?" GRENT JOINED THE PARTY
"I'LL KILL EVERYONE AHAHAHHAHAA (looks at camera) STARTING WITH YOU!!1"

That's not a bad idea, there. Were we not going to have an actual plotline or something? I figured that there would be 3 different campaigns (each with different characters) that all tie together to the same main story.

I'll just repost this post from earlier, because I still like it more than some big story. Summary below. Basically, you fight any brawler in the order you choose, while they get progressively harder. Before each fight, you get a briefing of whoever you're about to fight, telling you about his/her powers and some background. Then you get to his/her stage, fight a lot of fags you kill in maybe 5 hits, then fight the Brawler you're there to take out. You do, then you're taken to a map, where you select the next person to fight and kill. You can easily work in some boss characters with a little imagination. Maybe a robot at the end the organization uses to kill you, cuz you're the last brawler. Shit like that.

Course we don't want to be making Jacob as the hardest guy in the game.

Cutscenes would take place in first person view of your figher That's a terrible idea that EA seems to love to use in their games.

Course we don't want to be making Jacob as the hardest guy in the game. Jacob is going to be the training mode dummy, methinks. Cutscenes would take place in first person view of your figher That's a terrible idea that EA seems to love to use in their games. It's not that bad of an idea at all. That way we wouldn't have to come up with a clever way of adding your chosen character into the cutscene; we could just have one cutscene for each character. I would, of course, support third-person cutscenes if they were unique to the character the player is playing as.
