A common comment we seem to get from the majority of new members to this site is that they are disappointed in their art, and that they feel intimidated by the art of the majority of users here. Now, I by no means profess to be the most talented artist on SPB, but I do have my artistic strengths, and there are some who admire me for them. As a word of encouragement to those of you who are disheartened by your lack of artistic ability, I did not start off at the top. Take, for example, my first profile picture of Gunsmith: Clearly not my best work. However, instead of giving up, I kept trying and I got better. After some time and practice, I eventually started making things like this: Of course, I'm not saying you have to constantly work on improving your artwork to enjoy your time here; there are several users who intentionally keep their art the way it is in order to produce drawings faster. What I am saying is that if you want to improve, you will, so stop fretting about it and start enjoying yourself!

As a newbie here, i'm wondering how many of you guys use tablets in your work? Some of us don't have access to such beneficial resources

I use a tablet in my travels, but I used a mouse for a long time, I switched back and forth with little difference. That and oh my lord, you should have seen my early pictures. SO BAD.

I use a mouse, And my art was no where near as good as it is now, infact when I first came here after the newgrounds one, my art was probably at the same level as kromax or drychris, but I worked at it and now look where I am. :D
You don't need a tablet to be a god artist, it only really matter on how skilled you are. Tools don't make the artist.

Cool. Oh, and how strict are you guys on using things like GIMP or Photoshop? I know over in Facepunch some people get really pissy if you use them.
(don't worry, not going to filter rape every image, I just use it for transparency 'n stuff ;P)

Sorry, Grent, I just gotta further the point. Another good example is my art work. About less than 2 years ago, my best artwork was commonly this. However, within 4 months of practicing and listening to advice from my fellow members, it turned into this. I felt that I still needed to improve, so about another 6 months later, it turned into this. My point is the same as Grent's, just practice on your art if you wish to improve, but don't stress yourself and not enjoy yourself. EDIT: We don't mind at all about your program. Just because were called Super Paint Brawl, doesn't mean were only open to a singular program. Reason for Editing: Further explantion

I myself am a fellow mouse-user and I definitely vouch for the "tools don't make the artist" belief. Cool. Oh, and how strict are you guys on using things like GIMP or Photoshop? I know over in Facepunch some people get really pissy if you use them. (don't worry, not going to filter rape every image, I just use it for transparency 'n stuff ;P) It doesn't matter what program you use for this site.

Am I supposed to post mine here too? I made this picture for a Newgrounds thing last September. My art actually stayed like this until I came to SPB and learned how to use the curve tool (I drew almost everything with the line tool.) I think mine is the worst of all of them. I'm not as good at drawing as a lot of people here, but my art has become a lot better after coming to SPB.

Before this website was even on my mind, I joined NG and started to make very bad pictures on Paint. I used to be like this: Yeah...not that good. I did try harder and it soon went into this: I thought this was my best picture. No joke. I still had room for improvement. Two years later I heard of the website and now my art has improved drastically. But it might still have room.

Ah... I remember when I couldn't draw people for shit... Then I literally studied my own limbs and looked in the mirror, and over time I remembered a couple of rules like: -Ears go from the top of the eye to the bottom of the eye -the human body is as tall as 6-8 human heads -arms extend to the middle of the thigh, and so on.
Reason for Editing: Oopsies, I forgot an n!

You still study your limbs and look in the mirror when you draw.... And then there are the times when you stare are your hand for like an hour.

Now, I had deleted a shit load of my old stuff so I can't really show you what my art looked like when I first joined SMPB, but I can tell you this. There is no one way to learn how to draw. Me, I am self taught, so those online step by step tutorials never helped me. Also, if I just look at something, I can draw it. Don't ask me how. I just can. Period.

Hmm. Ready to handle my suck? I also am self-taught, and look at my progress. My first brawl pic and my second MS Paint pic. A work which I made, like, two years ago. This is one of my favored old pictures. It's about a year old. Then I went for the whole realism thing. Went pretty well, still flawed. The beginning of my current no-outlines style. My most recent picture. Intense pagerape, probably.
