Ok, for some reason my brother's computer freezes when ever I go to play a game. Like Ta spring, or C&C 3 kanes wrath. It has never done this before, and i'd really like to know as to why it's doing this? I did a virus scan, theres nothing forigen in the computer so i can rule that off.
Any ideas, guys?

Put it in the oven at 350 and hope some of the ice melts off of it. SERIOUS PROBLEM IS SERIOUS. This is my brother's computer, and he's blaming ME for everything that goes wrong with it. When none of it is my fault.

Double check if it's plugged in.

How old is the computer? When was the last time you ran a disk cleanup or disk defrag? Is the system even capable of playing said games at unsaid settings (assuming they have settings)?

Not the same brother. (2 brothers, one sister. The brother that fucked up my memory comes on SPb once in a blue moon. hus name is blargy. (my sister use to come here too... but you guys drove her away....)). It's only about a year or two old, but my other computer (which crashed a few months ago, and I haven't bothered to get it fixed yet because it would cost less just to get a new one.) has been around since the year 2000, and it could play any game just fine. It is capable of playing games, my brother bought an extra flash drive not to long ago so that it could run any game at it's top quality. He said he heard a loud popping sound the day before it started freezing, I'm not sure what that means, but could it be that one of the flash drives exploded or something? I did a disk clean up last night, but it's still freezing. I'll have to try and con vice him to take it in to get it checked before he deletes my file on there. I have things that I need saved there. :C Yes rabies, it's plugged in.

Plug it out and then in again. How is that going to help? Nobody knows the science behind it, but dammit, it does.

You can also try defragmenting your hard drive if you have the time.

I have things that I need saved there. :C Not to be mean or rude, but how much do you actually know about computers? Namely hardware. I'm not a computer genius, but you came across pretty dumb. A flash drive does nothing for "quality" of a computer. A flash drive is merely storage space that is external and easily portable. Unless your brother is smart enough to have the computer rerouted to where any temporary files are dumped on the flash drive instead of the hard drive, you're not gonna be doing anything for the computer's "quality". Post the specs of your computer. If you don't know how to get those, go get Speccy. It's a nice little program that takes and gets the specs of your computer (and even tells you temperature!). Post a picture or type 'em out or whatever. I don't think flash drives "explode". There's not moving part, so if they overheat, they're going to catch fire, not explode. Granted, they could explode under the right condition, but it's probably going to be something that you'd know. The quickest solution I can think of is to make sure the inside of the computer is not dusty, because that could have caused a spark to transfer over some of the circuitry, resulting in a pop-like noise. ...Hell, make sure the inside of the computer is dust-free. I've sped up my mother's computer this way. After a cleanup, run a defrag. Analyze it first, and if there's more than a few single lines of red (or whatever color it says are fragmented files), run the defrag. If the computer is still stuttering after this, run a chkdsk. To do this, go to My Computer (or just Computer if you're in Vista), right click on the problematic drive(if you have one, it should just be C:/), and select properties. Go to the Tools tab, then find Error-Checking. Select Check Now, and follow the instructions on the pop-ups. It should tell you that it can't run a chkdsk while the disk is in use and ask you to or automatically schedule one for the next restart. Next time you need to shut your computer down for a few hours, restart it instead of shutting it down. The chkdsk will run and what not. Another thing I thought of: Is the computer stuttering all the time, or are you just having problems with games? If it's having problems with games, has it had these problems with these games before, or are they newer games? If they're new games, lemme know what games they are after you've posted your specs. You may honestly be expecting too much out of your computer and running it well above what your computer can handle. [E] Oh, and going back to the first paragraph, which I skipped and meant to come back to. What went wrong with the old computer?

I'm a comp sci major and that's the stuff I would do for my own personal computer (but was far too lazy to detail for Zarth). Also, I think when Zarth said "flash drive" he meant "flash memory," meaning a solid-state drive.

A who to the what now? Considering I don't know what it is, no. I just happen to have some really (and I mean REALLY) tech-savvy friends, and have gotten help from them. When something works, you tend to at least remember what it is, and can ask them to take you back through the steps to do it later.
I know what flash drives are. When I said they've got no moving parts, I meant they're not like hard drives with the spinning disks and all. I've had a CD drive (not an HDD, thankfully) literally explode a CD on me.

The computer smells like it's burning. Are one of the fans breaking down now?
Just problems with games. Another thing i forgot to mention is that for some reason when you go to turn it on, the mouse freezes, and you have to turn it off and on to get it to work again. Some times I have to do this like 3 or 4 times before I could actually move the mouse on the moniter.
Old computer died of viruses and old age.

Some times I have to do this like 3 or 4 times before I could actually move the mouse on the moniter. Old computer died of viruses and old age. Did you listen to anything I said? *facepalm* The computer probably smells like it's burning because it's overheating. First thing to do is probably make sure the fans are running. If they are, check that they're running well. While the computer is running normally, reach down and feel how hot the computer is. If it's really, really hot, guess what? You're overheating. If it's only while you're gaming, TURN DOWN THE GRAPHICS IMMEDIATELY. One thing to check is that there is no dust inside the computer. This can actually do wonders for the computer because of electrical shenanigans. A year or more back, I actually sped up my mom's computer by vacuuming all the dust out of it - it was literally covered with dust inside. As for the mouse, make sure it's connected. If you keep it in one USB slot, try another one. If there's not one free, swap it for something else. If that something else doesn't work all the time... you probably have a dead port.

Not wireless, we've tried tuning th computer on and off, we've tried unplugging and replugging the mouse, we've tried changing the mouse to a different one, it just keeps freezing up. It isn't a virus because he did a virus scan and came up nothing

The mouse issue may not even be the computer, it could be the mouse. My mouse is currently working tentatively at times, and it's because of how rough I am with it. It will freeze up momentarily from time to time, and either smacking it down good on the desk or waiting it out works.
What anti-virus did you use?

The newist versino of nortin. but I figuered out what was wrong with the mouse, apparently, one of the little metalic rods in the back of the cumpter was bent. I was able to straighten it out and now the mouse works fine.
