I have been wondering, and this is directed toward the majority of the users at this forum, do you care to increase your artistic knowledge and skill? Now, I don't want to sound like a jerk or anything but since I joined this forum last year I have been somewhat browsing the art threads of other's and I see that in the nearly one-year gap from me joining to today some people are STILL DRAWING STICKMEN, this kind of irritates me because I just think about how much better they could be getting by simply trying to draw anatomically correct humans, and I understand that you draw non-full bodies because you brawl and they're your trademark character so to speak but would it kill to try a full body every now and then? Think about what it could lead to down the road, you could become a commercial artist or maybe a freelance artist either way you would get payed to draw and all you have to do is practice. Andrew Wyeth mastered this stuff before he was even twenty. Now, with that said and assuming I have miraculously shown you a new path, I give you a few examples of ways of increasing skill very quickly. First example is very obvious, draw frequently; whether you dedicate hours on a work or mere minutes, you can gain a lot of knowledge by drawing daily, regardless of time, try drawing what you see around you on paper with loose quick strokes. Observe your surroundings: What I mean by this is, say you want to get better at drawing characters, well you're going to need to know abut proportion, form, anatomy etc, so aside from just drawing you can look at the structure of everyday people, use this memory to draw accurately. Look for guides and tutorials: This is extremely effective, take for example Posemaniacs.com, full of great human renders to work from. I would also suggest looking up Andrew Loomis, his guides are very useful and cover everything from beginner to very advanced practices. And one more thing, don't JUST draw characters, try to do some landscapes or objects as well. They can be really fun and immersive. Just to let you know, I'm no master either and I don't want to sound overly pretentious by typing this up. This is mainly stuff I've been told by other experts though. WELP, IN SHORT, SOME OF YOU GUYS SHOULD PRACTICE BROADER ASPECTS OF ART BECAUSE IT'S FUN AND CAN DO YOU GOOD IN LIFE THANKS FOR READING MY RANT BYE.

Just to testify what drawing daily can do for you, look at my progression of ten weeks drawing at least three days a week, often more.

Like I said, you just need to study how the human body works, give it an hour or two of study and practice for a a week, you will be surprised at how quickly you can improve. Just things like proportion and figure are things that can be quickly learned.

I forgot to say it but if anyone does get any books for help in their drawing DO NOT GET BOOKS ON HOW TO DRAW ANIME STYLE and I know a few of you might hate me for saying but the truth is anime can cause 'bad habits' in artists that are hard to break, for example. If you learn how to draw head in an anime style before learning how to draw them regularly you may have trouble learning them regularly because you will be used to anime style. I mean something like this: Compared to this:

I can't help but despise your perspective on art. I would elaborate, but I'm not exactly sure why I feel this way myself.
It isn't because of the anime comment, though. We all know the anime style is simplistic and lazy.

BEFORE:The Hospital Thread, ahhh, good times... AFTER:I didn't want to use this as an example, 'cause it was done like a month ago, but it's the only one I have of just him. 98% sure he's talking to Xamllew. We all know the anime style is simplistic and lazy. Does it have to do with the way I worded my post, making it sound like drawing should be only done in a way that you can gain skill from therefor boring and limited? If so, that's not the case. Art is a life skill, meaning unlike some other hobbies that may require you to be physically fit or wealthy or intellectual, art can be done no matter what state you are in (unless you have some sort of extreme arthritis or you're blind of course), but anyway, art is a life skill so you have your entire life to improve. I'm just saying it pays to be good, especially when you are young. Also, I think the reason Anime is kind of silly and simplistic is because it was a style invented for shows therefore had to be mass produced to fit every frame of the entire show because god knows if they were to draw fully detailed people in every frame there wouldn't be many episodes.

XD Oh man, those are pretty bad. Sucks standing back and having to laugh at yourself, but hey, just goes to show how much I have improved, huh? We've all gotten a lot better. Now put those things away before either you get hurt, or my soul gets crumpled into itty bitty bits. >.>

Seeing as how others posted their old, old art, here's some of the first drawings I did when I was getting into drawing/art/anime in freshman year. That's about 5 years ago?
