Truly lives up to it's name. (Corny joke? Yes. Is it a true statement? OH YES.) Saw it earlier today, knew I had to make this post. I LOVED this movie. My expectations were high, and I was not disappointed. The only other movies I can even think of that got me so excited and didn't let me down was The Dark Knight and Iron Man. Just think about that for a second. Let it marinate in your mind. It's funny, it's brutally awesome, the fight scenes are just , and the actors were all the right choices. Not a person out of place. Even Nicholas Cage. I usually can't stand him, but he did a solid job as Big Daddy. I was very impressed. Also, the music was great too, adding some serious power to some already kickass/badass/awesome scenes. I'm checking out the soundtrack right now, actually. Good stuff. Flying through the city on a gatling gun jetpack at the end did seem a liiiiiiiiiiiittle bit silly though.
Granted, the gatling gun jetpack was also insanely badass, so it's okay.
also yessssss sequel hook DO WANT tl;dr- This movie is awesome. This movie is crazy awesome. Go watch it. I cannot stress how fun this film is.

I've heard great things about this fine film... something like 4 months ago, BUT STILL. I need to get a posse together so I don't look like a lonely loser going into the theater.
Also, I can't help but notice that all of those "lived-up-to-expectations" movies were of the comic-book variety. I'm not terribly surprised, really...

I've seen the trailers, and all I can think is "Older people get to view better movies ;_;". What with it being rated R and my parents being all strict about mature stuff. At least they care about what I see and stuff, I guess.

I've only seen the trailers for it, but to me it looks like a cheesy film... What with all this youngin's wearing super hero outfits and shooting each other.
I'm totally (in the words of Lex Luther) WRONG on this one, right?

Whassat supposed to mean? whachoo tryin to say? hmmmmm? Yeah, guilty as charged. I'm a total sucker for most movies based on comics. Or superheroes, but you already knew that.I've only seen the trailers for it, but to me it looks like a cheesy film... What with all this youngin's wearing super hero outfits and shooting each other. I'm totally (in the words of Lex Luther) WRONG on this one, right? You're Swordkill. Of course you're wrong. But seriously: the only "youngin wearing a super hero outfit and shooting each other" would be Hit-Girl. And she mostly uses blades and stuff. And, yeah, in concept, an eleven-year-old girl who pretty much fights like a NINJA and has one of the worst pottymouths ever put on film could sound kinda cheesy. . . .But that's the thing. In CONCEPT. In the actual film, the fight scenes are really entertaining and any cheesiness will be ignored because "holy crap, this is awesome". I can only think of two scenes where the word "cheesy" even popped up in my head, but like I said before, the feeling does not stick around.

So... it's cheesy awesome... Hm.
What, like two epic rivals doing a shirtless, sweaty manly man fist fight? Lol.

Learn to read, Swordkill. Grim just said it sounds cheesy on paper, but in execution it's flippin awesome. Unlike Grim, I thought Nicholas Cage was pretty awful in this movie (mostly when he had his costume on), but the movie as a whole was EPIC AWESOME AND EVERYONE SHOULD SEE IT.

Grent, I'm curious, do you usually enjoy Nic Cage in movies?
I just think it'd be funny if someone who usually can't stand him (Such as myself. Raising Arizona is an exception though) loves him here, but someone who likes him hated this role.

Like is a strong word, but I'd say he's usually cast a lot better and I typically enjoy movies he's in.
He just paused at the... most random points... in his speech. Like he was trying to prove he'd mastered the dramatic pause but he clearly hadn't. Not that it made the movie less awesome, I just didn't like his character as much as I probably otherwise would have.

Awww man...I was just about to make a thread about this. Glad you liked it, that's at least two people I know who said it was great, my friend Ernie told me to (der) read the comic book and see how close they kept it. The second I saw the trailer with the Russian hitting a car roof I knew I had to see this, this and Scott Pilgrim vs the World (though I doubt anybody's even heard of that one yet). And Hit Girl just broke the barriers of modern cinema when I heard her talk to Daniel. "...You just contact the Mayor's office. He shines a giant light in the sky - its in the shape of a giant cock." ~ Hit Girl.

Learn to read, Swordkill. Now, that actually made me feel pretty bad, thanks. All he did was correct you. Awww man...I was just about to make a thread about this. Glad you liked it, that's at least two people I know who said it was great, my friend Ernie told me to (der) read the comic book and see how close they kept it. Keep in mind the comic and the script for the movie were actually written at the same time. Ehhh, I only read about halfway through (couldn't get ahold of the others), but from what I've heard about the rest of it, it is: Darker, less AWESOOOOOOME and less fun. It tries to deconstruct the idea more. When you read that, keep in mind I sort of take this movie as the Zombieland of superhero films. Specifically, the "origin" of Big Daddy and Hit Girl in the comic. Look it up if you dare. I knew I had to see this, this and Scott Pilgrim vs the World (though I doubt anybody's even heard of that one yet). ORE GA DAREDA TO OMOTTE YAGARU?!You'd be wrong. Horribly wrong. And Hit Girl just broke the barriers of modern cinema when I heard her talk to Daniel. I think the surprising d'awwwwww-ness of the relationship between Big Daddy and Hit Girl made it even better, actually.

I saw this recently and loved every second of it
Hit Girl was my favorite character, mostly beause she was bad ass and all of her best fight scenes were set to really up beat music.
I liked Big Daddy, but it just seemed off to me, how he reffered to her as child, how he had the southern hospitality feel, the dramatic pauses. But the scene where he was showing hit girl what a bullet felt like, classic.
