The old thread was deleted since it was pretty much useless. This section needs a face lift. I'd like to fix up every thread here.
Q: Where do I begin?
A: The first thing you should do is make a roster in the Fighting Roster section. Can't Brawl without a Brawler, now can you?
Q: How does Brawling work?
A: Look above to "Understanding the Sections" and check out the Main Arena and Grudge Matches info.
Q: What are recommended art styles and such?
A: Cartoony, realistic, anime-inspired, it doesn't matter. Most people here started out with sticks and moved onto "fullbodies" (real people), so no one should feel bad about their pictures. It should be noted that proportion and detail are generally held high on this site, so try to pay attention to it. Also some people like to be funny, but others like to fight brutally and use awesome attacks. This is all a matter of preference. Do what you want.
Q: What image uploading sites are recommended?
A: Imageshack and Photobucket. Imagehost and Cubeupload are also used, but have their known flaws: Imagehost isn't always viewable by everyone, and pictures are deleted after a certain amount of time not being accessed. Many people on the site cannot see pictures hosted on Cubeupload.
i've taken to using sadpanda.us, it's actually remarkably fast considering i live in australia ~mcj
Q:How do you post pictures? This attachment thing is ugly.
A: Paste the URL of your picture into the post, then, immediately before the "h" in http, type "[IMG]" (without the quotes), and after the last letter in the name of your file, type "[/IMG]" (again without the quotes).
Decent hosting sites should have the coding already written for you when you upload a picture. Also, if it doesn't have the IMG tags I mentioned in the last paragraph, it probably won't work.
Q: What are the general feelings on doubleposting and reviving old threads?
A: If there's a good span of time between doubleposting and there's a good reason for it, then you are fine. If not, there's a chance a mod will delete any spare posts and put it all in one post. Don't revive old threads (several months) with just a post or comment. Please, try to refrain from bumping unless you're actually contributing with a picture.
Q: My post count won't rise! Why?
A: This is to prevent spam. Your post count (and by association, rank) will only rise if you post in the Main Arena, Grudge Matches or Artwork sections. So posting only in Chit-Chat won't do you any good. By the same token. . .
Q: What are Brawlios?
A: OUR WONDERFUL IMAGINARY MONEY! For every post in a valid section (Main Arena, Grudge Matches, Artwork) you get 2 Brawlios. You can also get them by selling items in this thread or doing art requests for Brawlios. Make sure your prices are reasonable in both cases, please. You can also use Brawlios buy weapons and items and summons from the same thread for use while Brawling (Whether in Main Arena or Grudge Matches, it doesn't matter).
Q: How do I buy something?
A: Just post in this thread. Say which items you want and a mod will update your item inventory for you.
Q: Can I get rid of one of my Brawlers?
A: You may sell any of your Brawlers in the Community Events section. Please don't make tons of Brawlers just to sell them for Brawlios.
Q: How do I become a mod?
A: This is currently unlikely, as we have a strong amount of mods and not much needs moderating. However, if you really want to try, just be a user who is responsible and helpful. It also helps if you contribute enough to become well-known. If you already think you are mod material, you could always try asking Balto-Boy via a message (who will HOPEFULLY ask the other mods their feelings before deciding). There have been polls for voting new mods several times before in the past.
Q:Is there any information on Brawl City? I was wondering if there is a fairly detailed map of it.
A: Indeed there is.
This thread is supposed to keep track of such things, but apparently I've got some updating to do there as well.
Don't be afraid to ask a mod any questions if you are still a bit confused. Or just post here. Have fun!
Stickied for great justice. -Grent
Are You New Here?? - The place any sensible forumgoer would head first. This should tell you all you need to get started Brawling.
The Fighting Roster - This is where you put your Brawlers' profiles and information, such as their abilities and backstory (if they have one). Each user should have one thread, with their Brawler profiles nicely bundled in the first/starting post. People can tell you what they think of them and you can do the same for other users.
Main Arena - Make sure to read for any additional rules. Check the stickied threads. Consider this the true Brawling zone. There are tons of threads with specific themes (Make a picture at least once a week or your character dies, OMG ZOMBIES!!11, team matches of capture the flag, everyone vs one person, etc.) where you can participate as you wish. You can also put threads that are supposed to follow a storyline of sorts here for more serious threads. Fighting all the time isn't even necessary. You could make a fun holiday thread. Be creative, be funny, show off your skills, and just plain have fun!
*KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR THREADS THAT MAY HAVE AN IDEA LIKE YOUR OWN* The search function exists for a reason. Use it well.
Grudge Matches - If you want to fight someone specifically (Send them a message/PM beforehand so you know they want to fight) then this is the place to go. If you don't want to fight someone specific, you can ask folks to fight you in this thread. You can set certain rules too (Once again, get permission from the other person). Say for instance you want two of your Brawlers against two of theirs, in an arena that is a giant breakfast table, while fire apes on fire try to kill you if you don't post within five days. Okay, not really, but you get the idea, right? Bets are allowed.
Story Writing/Fanfiction - Maybe you're more of a writer than an artist. That's totally fine. If you're writing a story or making a comic, then it goes here. Said story doesn't even have to be about Brawl, it can be something totally original from you. You can have illustrations (made by you or another user) in your story if you want as well. Threads where you want other people to post stories to a certain theme (make a scary story, continue from where the last poster left off, etc) are fine. If you like making various short stories or poetry or something, you can also make a thread for all your writings.
Chit-Chat - Talk about stuff. Drawings DO NOT GO HERE. Except for oooooone kind of thread. That thread is what we call an adventure thread. You know, you post a character in a situation and people reply to tell him what to do and you draw stuff happening. Yeah. Not much to say here. The Random Thread is the place where all your stupid thoughts and things should go.
Artwork - Maybe you just want to showcase your art. This is the place to go. Just make a thread for yourself and go nuts. There is also a criticism thread for helpful opinions on your drawings. Threads following a certain theme (draw your favorite animal, make a cd cover for a song, etc.) are alternatives to this. You can also request art in general, such as if you would like someone on the site to make a wallpaper for you. If there is a Brawler you'd like to make or are just thinking about making, and are wondering about what other users think of it, post it in the Concept Art thread.
Entertainment - Like Chit-Chat, but for video games and movies or music. Discussion on new stuff that just came out is common. Not much to say here.
Community Events - Kind of hard to describe. Talk about stuff going on in the site and whatnot. Sometimes awards are had on the best Brawlers (Best art, funniest, etc.). There is also a store where you can spend Brawlios (check the "What are Brawlios" question below) and the inventory where your items are kept track of. If there is a Brawler you don't want anymore, you can sell it to the highest bidder.
Helping Out - Want someone to help you out with something, anything at all? Ask here! You can post if you don't quite understand something about Brawl or would like to know about making Brawlers.
Ideas For Us - Suggest things. Pretty simple.
