So I've come from a few years of textual RP. I realize the forums here are mostly picture-based, but what do you all think of a textual RP? It's faster than pictures, and if I make one, we can use Brawlers or not.
If you are indeed interested, do you want me to stick truer to tabletop gaming and use a dice system (probably a simple d20 or d10 system), or do you want me to run off of the stereotypical (at least to facepunch) system of logic?

Sounds interesting son. I always wanted to try some kind of tabletop game or something similar.

I always wanted to try some kind of tabletop game or something similar. Same here, I just don't have anyone to play with.

The logic system is basically me personally deciding what happens, rather than rolling to see what happens.
Scenario: Modern day setting, you're law enforcement characters fighting bad guys in a warehouse. Everyone is hiding behind the big shipping containers, peeking out to fire. You blind fire.
Logic: I decide that you clip one of the bad guy's shoulders and he stumbles back, hiding behind the container and working to lessen his pain.
Dice: I roll a d20 and the number you happen to get is 12. I decide from this that you clip one of the bad guy's shoulders, causing minimal damage and forcing the bad guy to stumble back into cover.

I'd say this would be pretty fun as long as the GM (presumably you, Candy) actually made it a point to post often and everyone else learned to shut the hell up and wait for the next GM post. I personally would favor a dice system, slightly adjusted to logic. For example, you determine how likely clipping/shooting the guy from your example is based on how much training we've had in the game-world: a player who'd been on the force for years would be able to roll a lower number and hit than the first-day-on-the-force rookie.
Also I have a DnD dice rolling program on my comp that rolls just about any dX found in standard RPing if that would help.

Grent, there are these things in the tabletop world called SKILLS. SKILLS add what are called MODIFIERS to your rolls. MODIFIERS can ADD or SUBTRACT a BONUS to a ROLL.
CRUISE CONTROL for IMPORTANT WORDS.

CRUISE CONTROL for IMPORTANT WORDS. Oh wow, I didn't know you were going all-out on this. I figured you'd do it the lazy way and just take the "logic" approach with added dice for semi-fairness.

I have decided I will try a text RP.
However, I need to decide on what to do. I believe it was Grent who suggested I should start with an RP where you're allowed to play your own brawlers. Problem with this, though, is that I would need to figure out how to accommodate everyone's powers, as well as accommodate the fact that you have mastery over your powers. Running with a stat and dice RP will make this extremely tough. But if I ran it as a logic campaign, I could easily run it as a sort of superhero/villain RP.
However, if I made up my own setting, or forced you to create a Brawler specifically for the RP (you could use it elsewhere, obviously, but in the RP, he has no mastery over his powers [ie: level 1 character]), I could easily use the stat and dice system.

It's impossible to edit polls. Even for mods.
I say force us to create new Brawlers. Make up attacks/"spells" using said powers as you go.
Hell, maybe even assign powers.

I agree with letting us make new Brawlers. I dunno about assigning powers, seeing as I kind of already have something in mind. >__>

If you're making new brawlers, I'm going to limit powers, you realize that, yeah? A few people, like you Grim, have a brawler or two or a dozen that relies on silliness, quirkiness, randomness, and sometimes, spawning of said oddness, and that may not translate so well into powers I can quantify. So you'll likely have rather "base" powers (fire, lightning, ice, psyker, etc.) that you can multi-"class" or just be creative with.

From the sounds of it, Candy's gonna handle most of the technical stuff without us even hearing what precisely went down. You just make decisions based on what your character would do and hope for the best.

'dawww post apocalyptic... I was hopin for it to be based in modern times with a gritty city etc... not some 'oh-so-original' post-apocalyptic setting.
Cause my guy was gonna have a job and stuff... And from DC's latest post so was his character.

And that's exactly why we decided NOT to do post apocalypse setting last night. It's overdone, guys. Plus this way we can get some Brawler cameos if anyone wants 'em.

but aren't text RPs open to everyone
thus text roleplaying? it's not writing a story or anything. it's your beng your character and running around doing stuff that revolves a story
and post apocalyptic is a fun setting to mess around with, it doesn't have to be original- what are we aiming for anyways? selling this?

Open to anyone here who wants to post in it, yeah. No, we're aiming to play it. Participate in it. It's just for fun. As in, a thread on this forum. (Also, a good RP can be like a story) And some of our RP characters, the way they're made, already are kind of planned so that post apocalypse wouldn't really work well.

I honestly have no idea why you think a post-apocalyptic world would be so much better. We've worked pretty hard on the world we've got, and I'm pretty fond of it, as I know others are. Why shouldn't we interact with the world we've got?

I was just saying. . . i just got the intention that you guys were limiting it to just you. i was thinking of joining as well is all Feel free! You got the wrong vibe from us.
