I liked gorillaz when it started out. Damon Albarn making a fictional band that actually sounded like an actual band. Plastic Beach came out, and sounded more like Damon than gorillaz. Should of been called "Damon Albarn and his super hip hop crew." I hate that album so much. Now albarn released "The Fall." Gorillaz now seems like a name to promote things, instead staying true to its name.
When I found out that Damon made a new album using just the ipad I was thinking. "Yep, I give up on him." I had to listen to the album though, what if I was wrong, and the album ended great?
Lets find out.
Here is my short review of every song of the album.
PHONER TO ARIZONA: Starts out with that fart noise I tend to hear in alot of those crappy hip hop songs, keeps on going for a while with little boops. Not much excitement, and then a weird noise comes on through, like its trying to talk. Boring song, really.
REVOLVING DOORS: Starts nice, actual singing now, I gotta tell you besides everything, Damon has a nice voice. Then electronic sounds, it's alright. Keeps one being nice, then fart noises again with the singing. Sometimes synth just sounds terrible. This song is ok in my book though. Hopefully it continues along like this.
HILLBILLY MAN: Starts cool again, nice and soft. Then goes with hip hop funky sounds, with that trumpet sounding noise that you get from those cheap ass music programs. it continues with this scratchy noise that I don't really like. It goes on like this. I don't really like this song.
DETROIT: Starts with a loud scream. Then goes on with electronic sounds, just looping, and then you can hear low robotic voices, can't really listen to what it's saying. Boring song.
SHY-TOWN: Funky electronic sounds, then Damon starts singing again. Really boring sounding actually. I like electronic sounds and slow music, but this is really boring, nothing interesting.
LITTLE PINK PLASTIC BAGS: Looks like everything will start hip hopish now. It sounds alright, its not exciting really, real slow, if you like pumped up stuff and not slow stuff, this album isn't for you.
THE JOPLIN SPIDER: Starts with talking, sounds like they are drowning someone. And then a loud synth or something, really loud. Obnoxious noises, it loops, sounds terrible. Singing starts, with that annoying noise. Urgh.
THE PARISH OF SPACE DUST: Starts with what sounds to be radio changing stations. then damon sings with electronic sounds, and then a robot voice. Meh.
THE SNAKE IN DALLAS: funky hip hop with tiny voices that really doesn't suit me.
AMARILLO: Starts with with the tiny voices, then a cool electronic beat, sounds alright this time. Singing, it sounds slow, but nice, the music is too loud for the singing, its alright, but Revolving doors surpasses it.
THE SPEAK IT MOUNTAINS: Starts with those soulless voices you hear on the phone. Then little beat thing with a voice counting. then a scary hush. That's basically it. boo, moving on.
ASPEN FOREST: Rain. Boop Boop, sounds like a funky gameboy. I'm really liking this one right now, sounds nice with the piano, yeah. This one goes up with revolving doors.
BOBBY IN PHOENIX: Starts with country sounding guitar. electronic sounds, and then singing by Bobby Womack, this one isn't boring or anything, sounds alright.
CALIFORNIA AND THE SLIPPING OF THE SUN: Starts with talking, like a tour guide or something. Seriously Damon, this isn't innovating or changing. Damon singing slow. Then the phone lady talking again with a bunch of electronic sounds, then little low gnome talking with a funky beat. Sounds boring too.
SEATTLE YODEL: YODOLEIHOOO! That's it really.
My favorite is Aspen Forest.
But the whole album isn't very pleasing in imo.
