As recorded by Weiss Draconis
At first, there was nothing in the way for a budding artist to have fun on the web. Even 'fun' projects felt like a bunch of work. It became the same dull routine that prepared them for what was their only alternative in life: Average work and life with no creative compensation.
It seemed like this would go on forever, until one day, a ray of hope started shining in the cybernetic horizon of this bleak, dull web. It occurred sometime during that fabled gallery of random games, films, and fan-spoofs that gained popularity faster than a laser would reach its target: the Newgrounds BBS. This place had potential to relieve the agony of these artists, by encouraging them to create things for themselves. Then, the legend emerged.
This savior became known in the logs from which this historian obtained all his information as Trinidex, and for many a decade after, his name would be whispered in that reverence which we hold for prayers or in places of great vibrance and wonder. For with the coming of this savior, a massive explosion of colors, atomic bombs, stick figures and enough creative energy to develop a definitive meaning of life in the universe was born.
That legendary explosion formed a holy arena, where artists may draw their characters and create powers and weapons for them, to fight to the death in glorious and explosive violence, thus removing the inhibitor on fun and allowing the true artistic potential of flash animators, doodlers, and artists alike to develop at unprecedented rates. This sacred battleground needed a tournament, and the legendary Trinidex provided that, too. And as he spoke, the words echoed through the arena like thunder follows summer lightning.
The savior proclaimed, "Let there be carnage! Let there be Violence! Let the MS Paint Brawl, the most holy of artistic tournaments, BEGIN!!" And as the words echoed in the ears of every soul that heard them, a thousand horsemen with coats of 256 colors rode forth from the PaintBrawl Arena and spread the word to all artists throughout the Internet. The Paint Brawl, the greatest tournament the world has ever seen, had officially begun!
