-The Purge-
Chapter Six: The Sheppard’s path.
Note: Everything written in blue text depicts events taking place at an unspecified time in the future. Everything written in normal black text depicts events taking place in present time. Also, the events written in blue are linear. That means that blue text in chapter 1 comes chronologically before blue text in chapter 2. When I say 'unspecified time', I mean it's not clear how far in the future we are, not that one blue text is 5 minutes in the future, and another blue text is 5 years in the future. It sounds complicated, but it isn't. Recap: Future. Present time.
Daniel Sheppard stared at himself. He leaned a little bit forward, gazed into the big mirror in the restroom and kept staring. He pressed the big, metal button on the tap and formed a bowl with both his hands to trap the water inside. He moved his face towards his hands as he threw the water in it. Sheppard stood back up straight and rubbed his face. He loosened his shoulders and took a more casual posture as he let out a refreshing sigh. He turned to his right and started walking towards the door.
He pushed it open, and beyond it was the interior of a classy Italian restaurant. As soon as the door opened, violin music became audible. Daniel walked through the aisle, towards a table. Sitting at the table were some of Brawl City’s highest in command. The Mayor, the Secretary of Brawler Control and the Chief of the Brawl City Police Department were all sitting at the table, smoking cigars, drinking champagne and just finishing dinner. As a few waiters came to collect the plates, Sheppard sat down. A thing to note was the one empty chair at the table, but there was still an empty plate in front of it, and a lit cigarette in the ashtray next to the plate.
“I still can’t believe you pulled it off!” said the Mayor to Sheppard, as he blew some smoke out of his mouth and into the air above the table.
“I don’t know if I want to go back to the city! This town is so much nicer.” commented the Chief of Police.
Sheppard’s face lit up and took on the same devilish grin as it did during his presentation at the Town Meeting.
“It was my pleasure, gentlemen.”, replied Mr. Sheppard back at the men.
“I don’t know what’ll happen to my job after this is all over!” noted the Secretary of Brawler Control as the table burst out in laughter. Everyone besides Mr. Sheppard.
“I propose a toast for The Purge!” said the Mayor as he raised his glass.
Everyone at the table joined and touched glasses together and proceeded to drink from their red wine.
“Well, gotta go hit the head. I’ll be right back.” Said the Secretary as he slid his chair back and stood up.
Sheppard looked more alive than he did a moment ago.
“Wait! I’ll go with you.”
“Didn’t you just go?” noted the Chief.
“Must be that Italian food, eh? Hehe…” replied a nervous Sheppard as he also stood up and followed the secretary to the bathroom.
The secretary pushed open the door and headed right for the urinals at the back wall of the restroom. At his right were the sinks and at his left the stalls. As he passed by, he noticed something coming from under one of the stalls. It appeared to be… blood.
He pushed open the door and saw the bashed in face of a man in a suit. His colleague. It all became clear to him now. Sheppard and this man both left the table earlier to go to the bathroom, but only Sheppard returned. He looked to the left, but it would appear to be his last sight. Sheppard smashed in his face with a fire extinguisher. The Secretary of Brawler Control fell on his back and blood poured out of his broken nose and out of his mouth.
Sheppard threw down the fire extinguisher and reached into his right pocket. He pulled out his cell phone and dialled a number. The voice on the other line could not be heard, but this is Daniel’s side of the conversation.
“Yeah, it’s me. I got two of them in here. I need clean up ASAP.”
…
“I don’t think they suspect a thing. They’re too busy celebrating over their victory.”
Sheppard hung up and put the phone back in his pocket as he walked out of the restroom and back to his table.
“Where’s Bill?” asked the Chief of Police.
Sheppard seemed emotionless.
“He had to go. Problems with the missus .”
“I didn’t see him leave…”
“That’s cuz you sons of bitches were to busy drinking up all of the wine!” Sheppard said with a faked playful attitude as he motioned to a waiter to come to the table.
Grimscott was standing on a rooftop. Opposite to her was Illidon, who was fighting with MVG, McJesus, and Balto-boy. Behind her, on the rooftop, was her decapitated clone-self. She sighed in preparation, and took a few steps back. After a moment had passed, she started sprinting towards the edge of the roof while screaming.
She leaped towards Illidon and swung her scythe into the side of his head, and used it to cling on. Illidon seemed to care little, and used his right hand to punch Grim off of his shoulder which she had previously landed on. Grimscott fell from a great height and crashed into the streets below.
Balto-boy, who was standing in front of the enormous purple demon aimed his glove at him as a glowing green orb started to appear in his palm. Expanding beams started to protrude out of the orb and spun around as the orb grew larger and larger.
Just as Balto was about to fire, he was hit in the side by a huge explosion caused by McJesus’ clone. The impact sent him flying over to the sidewalk where he landed with a thud. The clone Mcjesus fired several other explosions in the direction, but the real McJesus jumped in front of him and used his own immune-to-combustion-body to shield Balto from the blasts. As Balto-boy got back on his feet, he, safely behind Mcjesus, charged another orb in his hand and grew it to a successful size.
“Just tell me when you’re ready!”
Balto looked at the expanding orb…
“NOW!” cried Balto out as McJesus dove to the side.
Balto aimed his glove at the purple clone of the Messiah and fired a huge, green beam at him. The beam burned away the clone and caused a huge hole in the building behind it.
Before Balto and McJesus could take their victory over the clone in, they were startled by the sight of Swordkill crashing into the ground in front of them. Before they, or Swordkill, could react, his clone landed on top of him and impaled Swordkill’s chest with his purple Chainsword replica. Upon impaling, the clone activated the sword’s chainsaw aspect. The metal spikes on the sword started spinning like a real chainsaw and tore away at Swordkill’s flesh as he screamed out in agonizing pain.
Blood splattered all over the clone’s face, but he seemed to enjoy it. Balto broke out of his shock and attacked the clone with a punch, but before he could make contact, a quick swing of the purple chainsword quickly severed Balto’s gloved hand. Before the Swordkill replica could finish the job on Balto, Mcjesus finally reacted with a concentrated explosion in the clone’s face. The purple copy crashed into a building across the street, and Mcjesus barraged it with several other explosions, making the building collapse on top of the clone.
“Are you alright, man?” asked a horrified McJesus.
Balto had dropped to his knees on the sidewalk, and had grabbed his wrist with his only remaining hand.
“Does it look like I’m alright?! MY HAND GOT FUCKING CUT OFF! I can’t do this much longer, man. QuickFeet better get back with reinforcements soon. ” replied the dog-wolf thing, as sweat dripped down his face.
“ I better go help them. You go look for some bandages in a store or something.” said Mcjesus as he ran towards the others.
About two blocks from them, MVG had distracted Illidon by taunting him and quickly disappearing with his portals before Illidon could get a shot in. Grimscott was attempting to get back on her feet, but the punch and fall had almost knocked her out, and she was feeling dizzy from it.
MVG popped out of a portal on the roof, with a rock in hand, and threw it in Illidon’s face to attract his attention. Little did he know, that behind his was his own clone, who had fired a portal on the side of a building in front of Illidon. The clone fired his last portal directly underneath Madgamer, making him drop right through. He appeared out of the other portal on the side of the building, and flew out with tremendous momentum. He crossed Illidon’s path, who quickly punched Madgamer into the ground.
Grimscott, who had regained her balance ran towards Illidon, and drove her scythe into his heel. Illidon, pissed as hell, turned around and prepared to crush Grim under his foot. Just as Illidon brought his foot down, McJesus fired an explosion at it, making Illidon step back, and saving Grimscott from being crushed. The Madgamer clone fired a portal underneath Grimscott, making her fall through and appear on the building he was on.
The purple MVG let out a roar with his stitched mouth, but Grimscott seemed to care little. The clone charged over at Grim, and she got into a battle ready position. With ease, she sliced the incoming clone in half. The upper part of him fell off the roof. The legs dropped down on their knees, fell backwards and started bleeding from the waist.
Down below, McJesus was dodging Illidon’s attempts to stomp him, and firing explosions at him, which seemed to do little. Back on the roof, Wheeljack came out from under Grim’s head by her command.
“Go help McJesus!” she said to the little turtle, as he flew towards Illidon. Wheeljack was engulfed by a purple aura as he started firing lasers at Illidon with a “PEW PEW” sound.
The lasers didn’t seem to harm Illidon, but were enough to attract his attention. Illidon grabbed Wheeljack in one hand and crushed him. Blood dripped through the openings between his fingers as Grimscott looked horrified at the scene.
McJesus saw his opening and fired an explosion at his own feet, propelling him into the air. As he reached up to eye-level with Illidon, he fired a huge, double handed explosion in his face.
The impact from it was enough to make the purple demon lose his balance and fall on his back.
McJesus landed back on the street and yelled over to Grimscott.
“Come on! We have to get out of here!”
A waiter walked over to the men’s table and informed the Chief of Police that he had a phone call.
The waiter briefly shared a look with Mr. Sheppard and then accompanied the Chief to the phone.
“Shall we get going already? You know how long he takes on his calls…” Sheppard asked the Mayor.
“Yeah, okay.” He replied as they both got up from the table.
The Mayor put some money down to pay for dinner and they both walked out of the restaurant and into the parking lot. The sky was pitch black, and little could be seen outside.
The Chief of Police was guided into the kitchen. It seemed to be busy as always in there, so the cooks didn’t even look up. The waiter directed him towards the phone. The chief walked over and picked it up, but there was no one on the other line.
“Is this a joke?” he asked.
Before he got an answer, a cook approached from behind. In a swift motion, the cook lifted up the Chief’s chin and slit his throat with a Chef’s knife.
The Chief dropped down on his knees and rolled over on his back. The waiter that had come get him from the table squatted over.
“No. This is not a joke.”
The Mayor was searching for his car in the barely lit parking lot, with Sheppard trailing behind him.
The mayor seemed to have located his car and searched his pockets for the keys.
He soon found them, but before he could unlock the door, he felt the cold steel of a gun’s barrel on the back of his head.
“Sheppard? What are you doing?!” He asked with a panicked voice.
“Turn around.” Replied Sheppard, calm as ever.
“What’s going on here?” asked the Mayor as he put his hands up. The gun was now touching his forehead. “I thought you were on the good side!”
“Sides? Hah! This has nothing to do with good or bad. All I want is control of Brawl City’s economy. Can’t do that with its “leaders” in the way, now can I?”
The Mayor’s legs started shaking.
“But you helped us?”
“You think I would risk losing my billion dollar creation just to HELP? Don’t kid yourself. I planned your death even before we met. Killing all of the Brawler’s was just for my benefit. Once I take control I can’t have those guys running around my city. Well… bye.”
Sheppard pulled the trigger and a bullet pierced through the Mayor’s skull and came out the back of his head. The muzzle flash illuminated Sheppard’s face for just a moment, revealing the same, devilish grin he had displayed several time.
The blood was seeping out of the bullet hole in the Mayor’s forehead, and ran over his face in various little streams. Once the blood had reached his cheeks, the mayor collapsed on the ground.
Sheppard reached for his cell phone again and dialled a number.
He hung up his cell phone, put it back in his pocket and walked away.
